"How do you do it, Doc?"

Although I would have been be very proud if the question was referring to my ability to diagnose strep throat from across the room, the question was actually, "How do you stay in shape?" Flattering, nonetheless.

I'm fifty years old. I weigh 120 pounds, give or take a bucket of movie theatre popcorn. I weighed 118 pounds when I graduated from high school and maxed out at about 126 when I worked as a manager of a Wendy's (I invented Chili, Chips and Cheese, long before it was on the menu. Not that I got credit.). I don't have high blood pressure, I have great cholesterol (totally rocking the HDL) and I'm not a diabetic.

I live by some basic rules:

1. Eat real food.

2. Stop eating when you are full.

3. Exercise, but don't obsess.

4. If you are going to drink carbs, make sure they give you a buzz.

My goal with this blog? To share with you some of my day to day practices and some of the knowledge I have gained through over two decades of medical training and practice that help me to stay in shape and remain healthy. We're going to share recipes, exercise tips and nutrition information, and I promise not to ask for your insurance card or send you a bill.
